"I remember saying, 'Chris, hold on, Chris, hold on,'" Betty Pearson said. "I just knew it was over."

A state Highway Patrol trooper said Pearson lost control when she swerved into the median to avoid a collision. Her car went across the road and into a tree, then burst into flames.

"Mama tried to swerve back on the road," Christopher Pearson said. "It fish-tailed and went back in the median and swung around sideways."

Christopher Pearson jumped from the burning car, ran to the driver's side and pulled his mother to safety.

"I'm just so thankful," Betty Pearson said. "I can't be thankful enough for my son.

Troopers don't expect to file any charges.
