Citizens Visit Lawmakers For 'People Of Color Legislative Day'

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A push for equality in education, increased wages and a moratorium on the death penalty were subjects touched on at the General Assembly Tuesday, as several community groups joined together for the first "People of Color Legislative Day."

The citizen lobbyists -- representing groups such as the NAACP, the Triangle Urban League, and Southerners For Social Justice -- first marched through downtown Raleigh, then lobbied lawmakers on several topics. Some of those issues are already under consideration by the General Assembly.
