The $849 million plan for the 2006-2007 fiscal year is a 2.6 percent increase from the fiscal 2005-2006 budget and includes a 3-cent property tax increase that would generate an additional $22.9 million.
Wake County Manager David Cooke's proposal would provide an additional $18.5 million in funding to the Wake County Public School System, bringing its total county funding to $386 million.
The budget would also provide additional funding to Wake Technical Community College, an inpatient psychiatric facility, Department of Human Services and public safety.
The Wake County Board of Commissioners will host two public hearings on June 5 before voting on the proposed budget on June 19.
