Driver Charged With DWI In Fayetteville Accident

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One person is dead and four others, including a child, are in the hospital after an overnight wreck in Fayetteville.

Investigators said shortly before midnight, Greg Barnes was driving his Mercedes northbound on Bragg Boulevard when he tried to change lanes, hitting the back of a pickup truck. The pickup truck went off the road, crashing into a sign.

Authorities said 27-year-old Alicia Fuentes, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, died in the accident. According to authorities, Fuentes had just arrived from Texas and was leaving the bus station with relatives when the crash occured.

The other three people in the truck, including a 2-year-old girl, were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. There is no word on their conditions.

Barnes' vehicle hit a gas station sign further down the road. He was also taken to the hospital.

The northbound lanes of Bragg Boulevard from Stein Street to Santa Fe Drive were closed for nearly four hours, but traffic is flowing again as normal.

Authorities have cited Barnes for misdemeanor DWI. Other charges may follow.
