Bob Bode has been working on the State Capital Soccer Park in Cary for seven years now. In seven-and-a-half months, it should be done.
"When this stuff starts coming out of the ground physically, you see it. And the picture becomes real," said Bode.
The new park will be home to the Carolina Courage, playing on state-of-the-art soccer fields.
"Theoretically after a major rainstorm on the more expensive fields, you should be able to get out there and play and not really notice because they've got close to two feet of special drainage underneath them," said Bode.
The stadium will hold about 8,000 people, but a bigger, 20,000-seat stadium could be built in the future.
There is talk of international teams coming to play, possibly a professional soccer event, and Boyle says with the interest the Courage have generated, they may need more room.
"If you're putting 8,000 in the seats here, 10 years out, we're probably going to be too small," said Boyle.
The scheduled finish date is April 1, 2002. Five fields will be completed, and an international cross country course is also being built, and the league is bidding to make this new park the training site for the U.S. National Soccer Team
