Two Triangle Communities Among State's Most Physically Fit

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Triangle communities were named among the state's most physically fit.

Durham and Chapel Hill are both on the state's first-ever "Fit Communitiy" list, which recognizes North Carolina's municipalities that have exhibited a commitment to supporting healthy lifestyles in the areas of physical activity, healthy eating and youth tobacco-use prevention.

Other communities designated as fit include Asheville, Cramerton, Greensboro, Mount Airy, Oak Island and Wilmington.

The Fit Community designation is valid for two years. The winners will be provided with road signs displaying the honor, and will have an opportunity to apply for up to $60,000 in grant funding to further community efforts in the healthy-lifestyles area.
