FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cumberland County man was taken into custody Saturday night after leading authorities on a 40-mile chase.

The chase started after sheriff's deputies were sent to a residence on Inman Circle in response to an alleged violation of a domestic violence protective order.

After authorities arrived at the scene, Raymond Sanchez, 34, struck a deputy's vehicle while fleeing the scene in his 1995 Ford Probe," a Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.

The high-speed chase that ensued eventually made its way onto Interstate 95 and lasted all the way until mile marker 10 -- near the South Carolina border -- when Sanchez was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.

Sanchez faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, larceny from the person and speeding to elude and reckless driving.

Sanchez was at the Cumberland County Detention Center Sunday afternoon under a $20,700 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m.
