Three Candidates File To Run For Raleigh Mayor

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The deadline to file to run for mayor of Raleigh was Friday at noon, and current mayor Paul Coble will vie with two other candidates, Joel Cornette and Charles Meeker, for the position.

Meeker, a former council member, ran unsuccessfully for the office in 1999. Cornette is a business executive from North Raleigh with a slow-growth platform.

Coble, who is a first-term mayor, won the office in an extremely close election, defeating Stephanie Fanjul by just 264 votes out of over 47,000 ballots cast.
