NC State
is now named after Edward Fitts, an NCSU graduate who donated a $10 million endowment to the school.
It is the first time NCSU has named an academic department after an individual.
The gift is the largest in NCSU's history.
Fitts graduated from NCSU in 1961 and is the founder as well as former chief executive officer of Dopaco, a global packaging company based in Pennsylvania. Fitts is a native of Lillington, NC.
"The education I received here at NC State has always been the cornerstone of my success and helped make me who and what I am today. I wanted to give back to the department to make sure it had the necessary resources to educate the industrial and systems engineers needed for the 21st century," Fitts said.
On Friday, meanwhile, NCSU will dedicate its new $48 million College of Engineering building at Centennial Campus.
