Man Charged After Assault on Raleigh Officer
Raleigh police have filed charges against a man who they said attacked a police officer Monday night with a box cutter.

Hamilton faces a number of charges including kidnapping, carrying a concealed weapon and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
Police had stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Lord Berkley Road around 7:45 p.m., authorities said. Officers identified the occupants as Michael Hamilton and a woman who was the subject of a domestic-related kidnapping that had been reported earlier in the day.
When officers tried to detain Hamilton, he pulled out a box cutter and injured Officer J.B. Guyer, III, said police. Police said Guyer was cut around his neck and one ear.
Hamilton then tried to flee on foot into a nearby wooded area, but Guyer and Officer S.A. Goree pursued him and took him into custody, officials said.
Police said the reported kidnapping had occurred at the Longview Shopping Center on New Bern Avenue. Hamilton allegedly forced the woman into a car by using box cutters, police said.
Guyer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to WakeMed for treatment.
