Thief Steals Tires Off Sanford Non-Profit's Truck

"It's just unbelievable really even to think about it at this point that somebody would do that," said LCI manager Libby Dew.

Sometime between Thursday night and Saturday morning, someone went through a lot of trouble to prop up their delivery truck, strip the tires, and leave the non-profit with a $5,600 bill.

For a company that was already struggling to make the payments on their truck, leaders say it is too much. The thieves stole four tires, four rims and all 32 lug nuts.

But what happened to the truck will also affect what goes on inside the non-profit group. LCI provides job training to people with mental and physical disabilities. The agency sub-contracts work for a number of companies in Lee County. Without the truck, it cannot get new work orders in and send completed work out.

"I don't want to say nothing bad, but it would take a heartless person to do this to a place," said Dew.

For now, the non-profit will try and do what it can with what it has, having learned a tough lesson in the process.

"You would think that it would be a fair world but it don't look like it," said LCI participant Brenda Brooks.

Lee County Industries hopes to have the truck fixed and be back in business by the end of the week.
