RALEIGH, N.C. — The home where a Raleigh woman was beaten to death is up for sale.
5108 Birchleaf Drive, the 11-room home of Jason and Michelle Young, was listed this week on the Triangle real estate market at $424,900.
Described in the listing as a "beautiful, all-brick home on a large 1.8-acre lot," it has four bedrooms, 2½ baths, a bonus room and French doors "leading to a back deck overlooking a large fenced-in back yard."
Five-months-pregnant, Michelle Young, 29, was found dead face down in her bedroom on Nov. 3, 2006. Her 2-year-old daughter, Cassidy, was unharmed at her side.
Michelle Young was last seen alive at about 10:30 p.m. the night before her body was found. Authorities said she had been entertaining some friends at her home.
According to an autopsy report, Michelle Young was beaten numerous times and suffered a fractured skull. Several of her teeth were knocked out, and her jaw was broken. She also had bruises on both hands and a cut on her left thumb, the report said.
Jason Young was out of town at the time.
According to search warrants sworn out by Wake County sheriff's investigators, he allegedly had a relationship with a Florida woman for several months before his wife's death. The Youngs also had financial difficulties, and Michelle Young had a sizable life insurance policy, according to the warrants.
Authorities have not, however, called him a suspect.
Jason Young and his daughter have moved to western North Carolina to be closer to his family.
Last month, some of his relatives were moving items from the residence, but they would not comment on why they were at the house.
Local real estate experts told WRAL there is no law requiring sellers to disclose information about crimes that might have occurred in homes up for sale.
However, Sara Matyiko, a real estate agent with RE/MAX United in North Raleigh, said that a buyer's agent – a real estate agent hired by a prospective homeowner – is obliged to find out as much as possible about a property and share it with clients.
