Carolina BroadBand Lays Off Four-Fifths Of Workforce

RALEIGH — BellSouth and Time Warner may not have much competition in the Triangle after all.

Carolina BroadBand had planned to provide cable, Internet and phone service in Charlotte and Raleigh, but the start-up company has laid off most of its workforce.Eighty-eight of 110 jobs were cut Monday.

Top executives say they hope to wait out the slow economy and lack of investments then start building the network.
