Raleigh Police Officer May Face Embezzlement Charges

An officer who works both the main desk at the police station and out in the field has been disciplined. Sources tell WRAL he was working off duty, doing security at Carnage Middle School in southeast Raleigh. He had been there about a year.

Sources tell WRAL back in April, the school system discovered he had filled out false time sheets, billing it for $2,600 worth of work. Sources also say the department's Internal Affairs Division has completed its investigation.

At this point, sources say the administration has taken away the officer's badge and gun, but what is not clear is, whether or not, the officer has been fired.

Raleigh police may also charge the officer with embezzlement, a felony, that could prompt the state to take away his law enforcement certificate, which could keep him from working at any other police department in North Carolina.

City records indicate the officer in question has worked for the police department since 1988. The Wake County Schools will not discuss the case, saying it is a personnel matter.
