Dead Fox Found In Wake Forest Infected With Rabies

Posted Updated

WAKE FOREST — People who live and play golf in Wake Forest are being warned about rabies.

Tests show a dead fox found at the Paschal Golf Club on Saturday was infected with the disease.

Wake County Animal Control believes it is same animal that attacked a golf course employee Friday evening.

Eric Barnes, 17 was playing golfwhen an animal ran out of the woods and bit him on the knee.

Barnes told animal control that he noticed the fox was standing on his hind legs, asymptom of rabies, before running back into the woods.

Health officials say be on the lookout, because the fox may have had a mate or cubs in her den that could also be infected.

The fox was the 10th confirmed rabies case in Wake County this year, according to Dicke Sloop, animal control director. In the other cases raccoons came into contact with domestic animals, not people.
