Army Adopts New Look

Although the idea is not embraced by everyone, most soldiers say it is time to move forward as an

Army of One

, as the new Army slogan puts it.

Next Thursday, soldiers at Womack Army Medical Center will don their new berets.

"I think it promotes a good esprit de corps among the soldiers and the NCO's and officers, and I think it's a good idea," CSM Edwin Carter says.

Berets were traditionally worn by members of elite military units, like Airborne or Army Special Forces. But last October, the Army decided all soldiers would wear black berets to give them a greater sense of unity and commitment.

Sgt. Nikeisha Donaldson disagrees. As a member of the 82nd Airborne, Donaldson was recruited to show soldiers the proper way to wear their new headgear.

Although she dislikes the Army mandate, she says now it's time to move on.

"It's the Army standard, across the board, so everybody needs to do it," Donaldson says.
