Mardi Gras Celebrations Planned in Raleigh, Hillsborough

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — From red beans and rice to masks and beads, a Mardi Gras celebration in Raleigh will have some real New Orleans flair. That's because folks are throwing the party are from the Big Easy.

Eight families that relocated after Hurricane Katrina got together to celebrate at their apartment complex. They decorated the common area and have been cooking the traditional dishes all week for the festivities.

Hillsborough is offering its own French Quarter of sorts this weekend. The annual Mardi Gras celebration kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. with a parade on King Street. There will be New Orleans-style music and a costume contest. Tickets are $12.
