Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Aberdeen Shooting

Posted Updated

ABERDEEN — Investigators arrested a suspect in the Friday's fatal shooting of a woman at an Aberdeen factory.

Joseph Francis Alexander, 52, was arrested Saturday morning in a wooded area near the border of Richmond and Moore counties. A North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement Officer took Alexander into custody without incident.

Officers say Alexander shot his ex-girlfriend, Marilyn Jane Oxford, 46, in the chest and hands at the Intek plant on Anderson Street in Aberdeen shortly before 2 p.m. Friday. She died later at Moore Regional Hospital.

Oxford and Alexander were both longtime employees of the plant, which makes furniture fabric.

Twelve days before her death, Oxford won a court order that required her ex-boyfriend to stay at least 1,000 feet away from her. The protective order did not apply at work because they worked the same shift. From staff and wire reports
