ANGIER, N.C. — A case of embezzlement in a local town is worse than originally thought.

Bonnie Matthews, who worked as a utilities billing supervisor, was convicted last summer of stealing more than $12,000 from the Town of Angier in Harnett County.

The town's annual audit this year, however, revealed she actually took nearly twice that much.

Town leaders are deciding if they can file more charges against Matthews. The laws of double jeopardy could play into this case.
