The wreck happened on Highway 55 at Old Honeycutt Road in Fuquay-Varina. Police say the driver of a white pick-up truck ran a stop sign and hit the other pick-up truck, which collided with the car.
Five people were taken to WakeMed. Their condition is not known at this time. The driver of the white pick-up truck was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
"It is always tough with any fatality and any death you have to deal with, but when it is a small child, it takes a little bit out of you," says Stacy Pleasant, Fuquay-Varina police chief.
Police say it is the fourth fatal accident at the intersection in the past year. A traffic light was planned for the intersection. It was supposed to have been activated next week.
