CHAPEL HILL — Nuclear waste and fuel pools were among the main topics in Chapel Hill Wednesday night.

Dozens of concerned Orange County residents gathered to learn more aboutCP&L'splan to store more nuclear waste at the Shearon Harris plant. An expert on nuclear power talked about the probability of accidents and the potential environmental impact.

"I'm absolutely terrified if they put in this nuclear waste storage," says neighbor Norman Johnson. "We have quite enough as it is, and if they bring in the spent fuel rods from all the other plants, it'll make the possibility of some dreadful accident entirely too probable to think about."

TheNuclear Regulatory Commissionwill have a hearing 9:30 a.m. Thursday at N.C. State's McKimmon Center.
