Wintry Weather Makes for Glum Sunday, But No Problems Expected

TheNational Weather Servicein Raleigh issued a winter weather advisory for the northern mountains. Those areas could see 1 to 3 inches of snow by Sunday evening.

Central parts of the state, especially north and west of the Triangle area, have received a mix of rain, wet snow and sleet Sunday morning. Eastern areas should see mostly rain before the precipitation ends Sunday evening.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner says the event should not disrupt travel or electricity.

"We're not going to see any freezing rain, because our temperatures at the surface are not going to be below freezing," she says. Also, ground temperatures are too warm to support much accumulation.

Highs in the Triangle will hover in the upper 30s Sunday, making for a nasty, raw day. A brief warm-up on Monday will end by mid-week, with highs expected to reach only into the lower 40s.
