Former Fayetteville Police Officer Found Not Guilty Of Kidnapping, Rape Charges

Christopher Young was being charged with the sexual assault and kidnapping of three women while in his custody in 1998. The jury deliberated Thursday for less than three hours before coming back with the verdict.

The women alleged that they were intimidated by his badge and gun. Young testified he knew what he did was morally wrong, but he claims the sex was consensual. The jury agreed.

"It says, at some point in time, if you want to have sex with someone, that's fine. If you don't, you have to take some affirmative measure to let that person know. People are not mind readers," says defense attorney Bill Peregoy.

"I never lost faith. From the beginning, I knew that it was in the hands of the Lord. I placed it there," says Rev. David Young, Christopher's father. "I will admit he didn't use the best judgment."

The three women ran out of the courtroom visibly upset after the verdict was read.

Young is free on $13,000 bond. He had been in jail since he was first charged in 1998.

Young still has to go to trial on more charges of the kidnapping and raping of two women. No court date has been set for those cases.
