Tom Joyner, known as the "Hardest Working Man in Radio," broadcast his Sky Show live from 6 to 10 a.m.
The Tom Joyner Foundation selected FSU as one of 11 historically black universities to raise money for this year.
One way it is raising money is through corporate sponsors. Coca-Cola is one of those companies. For every bin filled with bottle caps, the company will donate $1,000 to the school.
"We help kids stay in school when they've run out of money, because it's one thing to get in school, it's something else to stay in school," says Joyner. "So we've dedicated this foundation to helping folks who are trying to continue their education at black colleges and universities throughout the country."
LaTashia Ham is one of several Fayetteville State University students who received a $1,500 scholarship.
So far, the foundation has collected more than $100,000 for FSU students. Joyner says he hopes to double that amount.
Many of of those who attended the live broadcast waited in line all night. Disco diva Evelyn Champaign King brought the crowd of 4,000 out of their seats.
The visit was part of part of FSU'shomecoming weekcelebration.
Joyner will participate in the school's homecoming parade Saturday.
