ROXBORO — Four people were injured early Friday when a tractor trailer and a car smashed into a building in downtown Roxboro.

The crash happened at 1:45 a.m. on Reames Avenue near North Madison in the Person County town. The vehicles crashed into Styles by Reginald beauty salon.

Police believe Tommy Jenkins, 19, of Person County, ran through a stop sign and hit a tractor-trailer, ramming it into the building. Jenkins is in fair condition at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Jenkins' two passengers were also injured. Jennifer Higgs, 17, of Roxboro, is in good condition after being flown to Duke University Medical Center. Patrick Nichols, 17, of Person County, is in satisfactory condition at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The truck driver, Chris Rose, of Dinwiddie, Va., was taken to the hospital. He is thankful to be alive.

"It could've been worse. God had a hand in this," he says. "It wasn't my time."

Jenkins was ticketed for drunk driving, running a stop sign and driving with his license revoked. Investigators are trying to track down where Jenkins purchased the alcohol. Reporter:Len BesthoffPhotographer:David Renner
