Deep-Fried Candy Bars? One of the New Trends at This Year's Fair

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Most respondents to a WRAL OnLineHot Button pollsay their favorite part of the State Fair is the food. There is a new treat on this year's menu.

How do deep-fried candy bars sound? It comes on a stick, and you bite through the crust to get to the candy bar inside. Early indications from fairgoers are actually positive.

The State Fair seems to be a good place to go trendspotting. Each year, new fads seem to seize fairgoers. Balloon toys and lampshade-style straw hats seem to be popular with kids this year.

The nice weather continues Sunday, making it an ideal day to visit the fair. A horseshoe-pitching contest gets underway at 1 p.m. Sunday, and be there at 2 p.m. for a tractor pull.

Visit Dorton Arena every night for free concerts. The group Avalon performs Sunday night.
