Two-year-old Denarrius Langston is smiling a lot these days even though he has a long way to go. He is in fair condition Friday after a week in critical condition.
Judy Langston, Denarrius' mother, says she can hardly believe his improvement, and she has no plans to bring another gun in the house.
"A week ago, I didn't know when he was going to be at this standpoint. He was just lying there," she says. Now, he notices me, and he notices his daddy. He knows anybody that walks in the room. Anybody that he normally would know, he can recognize them. He gives a big smile when we walk through the door."
Denarrius will celebrate his third birthday later in October. Deputies say they have not decided whether to seek charges against the child's mother.
