Questions About Sewer Capacity Put Halt To New Development In Clayton

According to theState Division of Water Quality, the sewer system is nearly at full capacity. Although the actual measured usage puts capacity at about 70 percent, town leaders have already applied for plant expansion and are waiting on approval.

Until that happens, new development will suffer.

"The growth, that we have, will have to be off projects that have already been approved and permitted and where lines are already in the ground," says assistant town manager Skip Browder.

So far, four or five projects are affected by the halt on new sewer permits. Some of the homes already have approval, but the others will have to wait for the state.
