McCain Stumps for Vinroot in Raleigh

The two men spoke to a friendly audience, detailing their shared views about education and tax reform, among other issues. McCain says Vinroot would be good for North Carolina.

"Clearly, people will be comparing [the candidates'] records," he says. "Richard Vinroot's record as mayor and certainly his service in Vietnam will have some impact."

Vinroot reiterated his support for school vouchers. He discounted charges that his support of vouchers would take millions of dollars from public schools.

McCain pitched campaign finance reform during his speech at the fund-raiser, which was held at a house in north Raleigh. About 100 people paid from $1,000 to $4,000 to attend.

McCain praised Vinroot for his service in Vietnam. McCain was a P.O.W. there for five years. From staff and wire reports
