Abandoned Baby to be Placed in Foster Care; Fayetteville Radio Stations Collecting Donations

Department of Social Services workers and employees atCape Fear Valley Medical Centerare now referring to the baby as Jarrod.

Thursday, the baby will be placed in foster care. DSS says if Jarrod's parents are not identified, the foster family will most likely be allowed to adopt the baby in what is called a legal risk adoption.

"Children, even at Jarrod's age, begin to form relationships and begins to become familiar with their surroundings," says Bill Scarlett of the Department of Social Services. "This provides the least risk for Jarrod."

While investigators continue search for leads, two Fayetteville radio stations are offering tender love and care.

Foxy 99.1 and Kiss FM 107.7 are joining forces by asking their listeners to donate baby items for the newborn.

"That's a human life, and we want to do our part in assisting with whatever a baby needs. It doesn't have a mother or father so we adopted the situation to bring the community together," says Garrett Davis, assistant program director.

Donations can be dropped off at the radio stations at 106 Hay Street or at the front desk of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
