Get the Stove Ready: Holly Springs Residents Should Boil Water

Holly Springs resident Terri Henson is protecting her family by using bottled water for their drinking needs. Her family is only using the water out of their faucet for external uses such as hand washing.

"We have been drinking juice out of bottles, out of containers and eating out," she says.

Leaders of the Wake County town say tests show high levels of coliform bacteria in the water.

Stephanie Sudano, the town's engineering director, says the water sources check out, but the same must hold true for the town's water distribution system before the boil water notice is lifted.

"By law, it must remain in effect until we receive two sets of clean samples," she says.

Sudano says the tests should come back by Saturday. Until then, residents are urged to boil water for five minutes before using it.

All food and drinks, including baby formula, that has been prepared with tap water in the last few days should be thrown out. Residents should also use bottled or boiled water for their pets' drinking bowls.
