Gunman Grabbed In Duke President's Office

DURHAM — Duke University's president says she may make some changes in security, after a man with a loaded gun barged into the her office yesterday.

Duke Universityofficials say 46-year-old David Malone walked into president Nan Keohane's office on campus, pulled out a revolver and threatened to kill himself if he did not see her.

Two officers covered Malone in pepper spray and then wrestled him to the ground.

The gun was never fired and Keohane was not in her office. Malone was involuntarily committed to John Umstead Hospital in Butner.

Malone is facing assault and kidnapping charges. Police say he was arrested for trespassing on Duke's campus in 1996.
