RALEIGH — Most new businesses fail in the first few years of operation, but a new center in Raleigh hopes to improve the odds. Raleigh's new Business and Technology Center officially opened Thursday.

The center gives small companies with big growth potential the resources they need to succeed.

The businesses share space, equipment, support services and personal guidance from people with years of experience.

Seventeen businesses, including Diverse Home Health Services, have already moved in.

"It gives us the opportunity to grow a business at a unique time in our operation," says entrepreneur George Jones.

"People love it here," says Dr. Walton Jones, executive director of the center. "It's just great to see people interacting and working together. [They are] taking advantage of the services we have to offer and sharing with each other and making it."

Dr. Jones hopes the center will eventually be able to house 100 small businesses.

The project has the support of thecity of Raleigh,Wake County,ShawandSt. Augustine'suniversities.

The center is located at Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Wilmington Streets.
