Chinese Tour N.C. Tobacco Farms

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — A government delegation from China got a close up look at North Carolina tobacco farms Wednesday.

The visit came just days after the country signed a memorandum of understanding to allow imports of U-S tobacco.

The four-member delegation toured two farms and a tobacco warehouse in central North Carolina. The visits were part of a 20-day tour that also includes stops in Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.

China agreed to lift an eleven-year ban of American tobacco in May and signed a memorandum of understanding in August to set the process in motion. Chinese leaders say they will put regulations in effect on November 30th to allow imports to begin.

The tour began earlier this week in Oxford.
