FORT BRAGG — A Fort Bragg soldier paid the ultimate price to save his best friend's son from drowning. Thursday, his family and friends came together to honor his memory.
Staff Sergeant Randall Lee Lewis drowned last weekend while trying to save William Simmons' 10-year-old son's life. Simmons says Lewis paid a price which he can never repay.
"He would have did that for anybody," Simmons says. "I would have done that. It just happened to be my son."
Soldiers had a chance to say goodbye to Lewis at a memorial service at Fort Bragg's Faith Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Highway Holiness Church of Deliverance.
