Raleigh Hopes to Tamp Down Party

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Raleigh police hope to have a grip on a block party that has had a history of getting out of hand, irritating neighbors and costing the city substantial money to monitor.

The infamous Brent Road party attracted nearly 7,000 people last year. It has drawn similar numbers in previous years. Most of the attendees are college-age, with some coming from other cities to attend the event.

But this time, the Raleigh city council started planning early and passed a nuisance ordinance.

That regulation will make it easier for police to cite violators and hold landlords responsible.

More than 300 officers will patrol Brent Road the night of the party.
