CHATHAM COUNTY — Search crews at Jordan Lake recovered the body of a missing boaterMonday afternoon.
Officials say 58-year-old Alfred Witcher and his 9-year-old grandson,Randy Robarge, were outon the lake when somehow, both ended up in the water.Witcher drowned.
Robarge was rescued by Norberto GarciaAyalya, who was in the area. He was takento UNC Hospitals, where he is listed in good condition.
The Chatham County Sheriff's Office says its search was concentrated inthe area of the Farrington Point boat ramp.The search began about 11 a.m. Monday; Witcher's body was discoveredaround 12:30 p.m.
Authorities are calling the incident an accidentaldrowning. Witcher and Robarge were not wearing life jackets.
