Lt. Ralph Rodriguez of the Spout Springs Fire Department was riding down the road when someone shot something at the fire truck that narrowly missed his head.
"We don't know if it was a gunshot. We really don't know what exactly it was," Rodriguez says. "He came at me from the side, and I looked at my mirror. He had reached his arm out of the passenger side. I don't know what he was holding. A few seconds later, the glass blew out."
Rodriguez says he may never find out who shot at him, but he says his life on the job will never be the same.
"You would think being with the fire department, you wouldn't get this kind of stuff," he says.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. Deputies are looking for a white Corsica that was seen leaving the scene.
The Spout Springs Fire Department is not the only department that has reported vandalism.
About a month ago, the Lafayette Village Fire Department in Cumberland County reported hearing gunshots outside of the department. A fire truck was damaged, but no one was hurt.
