Severe Weather Hits Durham, Franklinton

Local officials say there was no damage, but some people were left without power.

Duke Power says approximately 1,200 customers lost power in mid-afternoon, most of them situated in the Highway 70 East/Miami Boulevard area in Durham.

A Duke Power spokesman said power might not be restored until Monday morning at the earliest.

Meanwhile, a Garner home was reportedly hit by lightning in late afternoon.

And a report came to the WRAL-TV5 newsroom from Carbonton Crossing on NC 42 in Chatham County, west of Sanford, that a very intense hailstorm hit the area about 3:30 p.m. Temperatures dropped by 15 to 20 degrees. The worst of the storm was over in 10 minutes.
