FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman was charged Tuesday in connection with an incident that prompted a missing child investigation.

At around 7:30 p.m. Monday, investigators said Devona Stewart, 30, of Boundary Drive, reported a Chevrolet Cavalier taken from the CVS store at Grove Streets with 17-month-old Alexis Moore inside.

Authorities said the mother of the child and another relative were allegedly trying to track down the vehicle.

Fayetteville police contacted Dunn police after establishing that the initial report of a stolen car and an abduction were false. Dunn officers confirmed the child was safe at around 11:15 p.m., Fayetteville police reported.
