Durham Woman Embraces Motherhood by Helping Others Online

Posted Updated

DURHAM — It is the age-old dilemma: how to balance work and parenting A Durham woman found her answer online by giving answers to other mothers.

Beth Waldron gave up her career as a health care analyst to stay home with her 15-month-old son Evan.

"After I had spent a period of time at home with my son, I discovered that I really missed working," says Waldron. "I missed the fulfillment, the intellectual challenge that work gave me. But I still wanted to be with my son and spend this time with him."

Waldron found her answer on the Internet. She started a Web site calledEmbracing Motherhood. It offers advice about how to find a better quality of life.

"With the Web site, I'm hoping to reach other mothers -- both stay-at-home and mothers who work -- and try to provide them information and resources so that they can better take care of themselves, so that they can then in turn take care of their children."

Waldron says finding a better quality of life is good for everyone -- including employers.

Embracing Motherhood also gives mothers a chance to connect with other mothers through a chat room.

Waldron's theory is that before you can take care of someone else, you first have to take care of yourself. Mothers, she says, do not often take the time to do this.
