Raymond Napper woke up around 3:30 a.m. to find his house on fire. He and his family made it out of their home safely.
Just down the street in the Glen Reilly subdivision, Tracy Provoid's house was also burning.
Fayetteville police believe the fires are the work of an arsonist.
"This is the act of a coward," Napper said.
Provoid said, "I've been there ten years, and I've got a lot of sentimental things that can't be replaced."
The two men believe the fires were acts of retaliation. They say drugs are a major problem in their neighborhood park, and they got into an argument with some men there last week.
Napper and Provoid say they do not mind the material losses if it helps to prevent crime.
"If I could see this would happen, I would have done the same thing," Napper said. "I think we as a people should band together and protect our neighborhood."
Fayetteville police are stepping up patrols in the neighborhood.
