DUNN, N.C. — A Newton Grove man faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and crossing a center line in connection with a head-on crash that killed an Erwin woman, state troopers said Sunday.

They charged Daniel Norris, 21, of Newton Grove. The crash happened about 5:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 421 near Green Path Road in Sampson County, the Highway Patrol said.

Lynette Hurley, 34, of Erwin was a passenger in a car that was northbound on Rt. 421 when Norris' car crossed the center line and struck it, Trooper J.A. Siles said. She died at the scene.

Josephine Jones, 36, of Newton Grove, was driving the northbound car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Siles reported.

Stephanie Norris, Norris' wife, was a passenger in his car. She was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, also with non-life-threatening injuries, Siles said.
