NEW HILL, N.C. — Two tractor-trailers collided on New Hill Holleman Road in southern Wake County on Wednesday afternoon, injuring two drivers and forcing state troopers to close the two-lane road.

The accident happened about 4 p.m. about a mile east of U.S. Highway 1, the Highway Patrol said.

Thomas Eugene Tannehill, 40, of Carthage, was westbound in his own rig when he rounded a sharp curve and crossed the center line, authorities said. He collided head-on with a PCM Construction Services truck driven by James Lawrence Redmond, 48, of Garner, authorities said.

Tannehill was treated at WakeMed and released. Redmond was listed in good condition at WakeMed Thursday. He waspinned inside his wrecked truck for an hour.

Troopers called for the state Department of Transportation to erect barricades to close the road, which is near the Shearon Harris nuclear power plant.

Authorities reopened the road Wednesday night.

The wreck remains under investigation, and charges are pending, authorities said.
