Investigators say they got a tip that led them to this arrest. Last week, they had announced they had connected the crime with a March 16 break-in at nearby Graham's Grocery.
Tips from the public led investigators to the suspect in the Graham break-in Wednesday. They have arrested three people, all from Rocky Mount.
Sisters Felicia and Lisa Marie Bandy, and 18-year-old Colby Thorne have all been charged with breaking, entering and larceny.
As a result of the investigation, Nash County Sheriff Jimmy Grimes says Thorne confessed to the murder of Millard Bone. The sheriff did not say whether Thorned admitted to actually pulling the trigger.
Investigators are also looking for another man they believe was Thorne's partner in the killing. His name they have not released. He is believed to be in the Washington, D.C. area.
Police had been baffled by Bone's death for over four months. Grimes says they just couldn't seem to get on the trail.
Grimes says their big break came with they connected the .25 caliber weapon used to kill Bone with a weapon used to shoot out a front-door lock at Graham's Grocery.
Neither of the Bandy sisters have been charged in connection with the murder. Thorne was arrested Thursday at 2 a.m. at the Pitt County jail where he was being held for Edgecombe County authorities who had no room for him in that county's facility. He was in custody for failure to appear on a charge of assaulting a female.
Thorne's first court appearance on the murder charges will come Friday morning
