Truck Driver Believed to Have Fallen Asleep

Posted Updated

BENSON — Police say it was a sleepy driver that caused a highway disaster Tuesday morning on Interstate 40.

The driver of a tractor-trailer that slammed into a guard-rail and bridge abutment near Benson fell asleep, according to police. The truck virtually split into two pieces, but the driver escaped with only a broken arm and minor internal injuries.

The accident brought traffic in the area to a complete stand-still for hours.
