Local Company Helps 'The Good Ol' Boys' Speed Back into Hazzard

The game is being produced in the Triangle, and some of the original stars are bringing their characters back to life.

The Duke boys and the rest of the Hazzard cast prided themselves on good, not so clean, fun.

Some, includingWaylon Jennings, will star in the new game published by Cary'sSouthPeak Interactive.

"The Double Zero is the only car ever to beat the General Lee in an overland race," Jennings recorded for the game.

At SouthPeak, James Best is once again Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane.

"I'll get you Dukes or my name's not Rosco P. Coltrane," Best recorded in his classic high-pitched voice.

Game players drive the General Lee and other cars not in a race, but on missions to save the family farm, rescue Daisy and defend the Duke name.

"The goal of which is to give the players a chance to feel like they are playing through a couple of episodes of the TV series," said game producer Steven Wartofsky.

Production on the TV series ended almost 15 years ago; however, Best is excited about the game.

"Actually, I was very flattered when they said they were going to do it, and they were going to do it with a 'G' rating," Best said.

Tom Wopat, now a Broadway star, will portray Luke Duke in the computer game. Best says it is not hard to get back in character.

"Rosco P. Coltrane is not too far from me," he said. "I'm a 12-year-old in an antique body."

The game is due out forSony PlayStationin November and for PCs early next year.
