Mia Hamm Scores with New Game from SouthPeak

Mia Hamm attacked the microphone atSouthPeak Interactive, giving instructions to those who will play Mia Hamm Soccer 64 from Nintendo.

The world-famous soccer star is endorsing the console game for young girls who want to compete.

"It's a way for them to dream," Hamm says. "I think if you talked to all of us on the team, that's where it all started, with this dream of being on the national team, of playing for your country, of being the best that you can be."

Hamm also signed soccer balls for the SouthPeak sales team, doing all she can to make the game a success.

Hamm's enthusiasm is contagious.

"I'm more impassioned about working on it than any other product because it means so much to girls and to what's happening in society right now," says Toni Rich, product marketing manager.

Hamm hopes the game, which is being developed in England, will fill a gaming void felt by young girls.

Part of the money generated goes to the Mia Hamm Foundation, which promotes awareness of bone marrow diseases and helps develop opportunities for young women in sports.

Soon, young soccer fans will be able to take to a virtual field and compete as Mia Hamm does in real life.

The computer game is due out in August. Mia Hamm will play on the U.S. team in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
