Cumberland County Wants to Curb Kids with Curfew

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — July 9, 1996 - 6:55 p.m. EDT

A proposal in Cumberland County would make it illegal for children to be on the streets without an adult between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The proposed curfew would apply to anyone under 18 years of age in the unincorporated areas of the county. Parents would be held responsible for a second violation and could face a fine and/or jail time.

Community leader Moses Mathis says the curfew is a necessary step.

A coalition of community leaders plans to present the proposal to county commissioners next month.
