Three-Year-Old Found Adrift in Boat

Posted Updated

SHEARON HARRIS LAKE — June 28, 1996 - 5:01 p.m. EDT

A three-year-old boy is safe after being discovered alone in a boat in the middle of Shearon Harris Lake.

Chatham County rescue workers are looking for two men who were supposed to be on the boat with him. The toddler is the only eyewitness, so investigators are combing the area around the lake near where the boy was found, looking for clues.

A fisherman found the child in the boat and brought him in. Authorities say he is shaken, but in good physical condition, with no signs of dehydration or sunburn. They believe he was alone in the boat for no more than a few hours.

Missing are the boys father and a male teen. The toddler's mother is said to be on her way to Chatham County from her home elsewhere in the state.
